World War II Memorial

The World War II Memorial on the National Mall was constructed in 2004 as a monument to the soldiers and civilians who fought for the United States during WWII. The central fountain pool is surrounded by a granite plaza. The perimeter is ringed by granite columns and bronze wreaths,  and the outer entrance ramp walls are lined with bronze plaques depicting scenes of war abroad and life at home.

WEI was contracted by National Parks Service to assist the masonry repair at the World War II Memorial.  Due to the low elevation and its proximity to the water table, the monument has cyclical water issues due to ground water infiltration.

WEI removed caulk and grout on pool and plaza stones, and replaced the sealant.  In some areas, stone movement had created tripping hazards, so the masons removed and reset the pavers to eliminate those hazards before sealing the joints.
